Together with Ipsos UK, the Homeland Security Group (HSG) at the Home Office is carrying out a programme of further research to strengthen the evidence base for JESIP.

Part of this has involved conducting a JESIP Workforce Survey 2023, aimed at frontline emergency services staff in England and Wales, which ran from August until the end of September this year.

The survey has now closed, and analysis of the results is underway. Over 3,000 responses were received, surpassing the approximately 1,800 received to the previous JESIP Workforce Surveys in 2013-14.

Around 38% of responses were from those in non-commander roles, while over 20% of responses were from control room staff, providing a wider perspective of how responders experience and practise JESIP.

The survey results will be complemented by a series of focus groups and one-to-one, in-depth interviews with a varied sample across services, roles, grades, and regions, to provide a rich data picture.

Thank you to all those who have responded to the survey, volunteered for a focus group or interview, or offered advice and support for this important work.
