Launch of JESIP Interoperability Leadership Training

Launch of JESIP Interoperability Leadership Training

Published: 27th Jul 2026

JESIP is pleased to announce the launch of the new JESIP Interoperability Leadership Training course.

Developed collaboratively with partners from across the emergency services, health, local authorities, resilience organisations, the military and voluntary sector, this new training package has been designed to strengthen leadership, communication, coordination and decision-making in multi-agency environments. The programme reflects learning from incidents, exercises, operational reviews and extensive engagement with the responder community.

The course has been created to support those who may lead, coordinate, advise or support a multi-agency response. Through practical discussion, scenario-based learning and exploration of JESIP principles and tools, participants will develop their ability to work effectively with partners before, during and after incidents.

Importantly, the training reinforces a key JESIP principle: interoperability is not just for major incidents. Effective joint working should be embedded into day-to-day business whenever organisations need to work together.

The programme places particular emphasis on:

  • Leadership in multi-agency environments.
  • Communication and information sharing.
  • Joint understanding of risk and shared situational awareness.
  • The effective use of M/ETHANE, JDM and IIMARCH.
  • The role of control rooms within interoperable response.
  • Learning, debriefing and continuous improvement.

The national JESIP team would like to thank the many organisations, trainers and subject matter experts who contributed to the development of this course. Their expertise, experience and commitment have helped create a modern and practical learning package designed to support responders across the UK.

Alongside the launch, JESIP has introduced an updated Trainer Specification to support consistent national delivery and quality assurance. Only trainers approved in accordance with the Trainer Specification are authorised to deliver the course. Existing recognised JESIP Trainers remain approved under the new arrangements, and information for those interested in becoming a trainer is now available via the JESIP website.

Further information about the course, trainer approval arrangements and other JESIP learning products can be found on the Our Training Products – JESIP Website.
