JESIP Newsletter – Summer 2022 Edition

Welcome to Edition 35 of the JESIP Newsletter with a brand new refreshed look!

Since launching Edition 3 of the Joint Doctrine: The Interoperability Framework in October, it's been a busy time ensuring all the other JESIP products are aligned to it.

With the various multi-agency responses to the recent impacts of the heatwave, interoperability is as relevant as ever and we hope these updated products will help you integrate JESIP principles into your planning, response and debriefing.

Read on to see what we've been up to and for a round-up of other JESIP news.

New website

In June we launched the new and improved JESIP website. The previous site was over 7 years old and definitely showing its age! The content has been slimmed down and updated with refreshed products including those mentioned in this newsletter.

Take a look!

JESIP Multi-Agency Interoperability Course

In April, we started rolling out the new JESIP classroom-based course with a series of Train the Trainer workshops. Replacing the previous separate courses for commanders and control room managers, this new course trains both of these key functions together to not only promote shared understanding of each responder organisations' roles and responsibilities, but that of the key positions within the response structure.

To date over 150 trainers have attended a Train the Trainer workshop and are now in a position to deliver the new course themselves (which we know a number have already done).

July dates have just been advertised to Training Leads. Contact us if you've not received this.

New JESIP awareness animation videos

To support the training, and to align with the Edition 3 of the Joint Doctrine, we have released two new animations:

  • The M/ETHANE video demonstrates how to use the model and critically stresses the importance of sharing M/ETHANE messages received from the scene, between control rooms.
  • The major incident awareness video covers every aspect of JESIP from call receipt to the debrief.

Both of these can be used standalone or incorporated into training and awareness courses.

Updated e-learning

Our e-learning package has been completely rewritten and is a much improved product, catering for all responders, at all levels.

The package can be completed on our website, although we recommend organisations download the SCORM files for inclusion on your own managed learning environments. This will allow you track completion by your staff.

JESIP app - version 2.8.11 available now!

The JESIP app has been updated and is available across Apple and Google play stores. The app is full of useful information from the core JESIP models and principles, STAY SAFE, hazardous substance exposure advice, CLEAR guidance for responding on the strategic road network and much more.

The app can also be accessed via our website where it is easier to use the inbuilt forms, such as completing information against the elements of the Joint Decision Model, which can then be saved and shared with others.

Multi-Agency Information Cell (MAIC) Guidance

We have been working with colleagues to develop national guidance on the purpose and function of a MAIC. This complements the JESIP Joint Doctrine and aims to support Local Resilience Forums in developing their own protocol for MAIC delivery.

All JESIP leads have been contacted but if you haven't and would like to participate in this consultation, please contact us using the button below.

There are 386 lessons/notable practices currently published through JOL Online. These continue to lead to national improvements in interoperability.

There are currently two national multi-agency workstreams addressing issues identified through JOL in the areas of water rescue and casualty mapping. We look forward to updating you with the outcome of these.
